Mosiah 2:9; “…My beloved brethren, all ye that have assembled yourselves together, you that can hear my words which I shall speak unto you this day; …that you should hearken unto me, and open your ears that ye may hear, and your hearts that ye may understand, and your minds that the mysteries of God may be unfolded to your view.”
"We have come here [to conference] to be instructed and inspired. .. Some of you are struggling with problems, with challenges, with disappointments, with losses. We love you and pray for you. Many messages will be shared during the next two days. I can assure you that those men and women who will speak to you have prayed about what they should say. They have been inspired and impressed as they have sought heaven's help and direction."Our Heavenly Father is mindful of each one of us and our needs. May we be filled with His Spirit as we partake of the proceedings of ...the Semiannual General Conference of the Church." , "
If you go to conference expecting and prepared to only fill a thimble with guidance, that is what you will get, but if you are prepared to fill a bucket, it will be filled to overflowing!
Challenge: Take your “bucket” to General Conference and prepare to have it filled to overflowing. Use the thought points provided to help focus your mind, if needed.
What can I learn from General Conference?
General conference is our chance to learn from the prophets and apostles. The messages they prepare are designed to help us: better understand gospel principles, avoid temptations, be a good friend, neighbor and family member and draw nearer to our Savior. As you listen, be aware of the impressions you receive. Use the questions below to help you really listen to what is being taught and be willing to follow the promptings you receive.
v Is there a question…something you need an answer for…that might be answered during conference? Listen for an answer.
v Did you hear a story that really stood out? What did you like about it and what could you learn from it?
v What gospel themes do you notice for each session? Do you feel like there was a theme that impressed you for the whole conference?
v What blessings do the speakers promise? What do you need to do to receive those blessings?
v Listen to the music from each session. What messages do you receive from the words of the songs?
v What warnings were given? What can you do to avoid these?
v Listen for a speaker who specifically addresses the youth. What was their message?
v What stood out for you in President Monson’s talk(s)?
v Was there a scripture that impressed you?
v At the end of conference, is there something you feel like you need to improve on? Set a goal to work on it this week.
