This week is our Standards Week for the youth. They have daily challenges. I will post the challenges here, feel free to participate with us!
Why Listen Louder?
Listening involves more than just hearing with our ears, it involves the mind and heart and usually, change, and it involves action! Laman and Lemuel heard an angel....
Alma the younger and the Sons of Mosiah listened to an angel...and it caused a change of heart!
Mrs. Plunkett, the high school principal was visiting her grandchildren in NYC last February. One Saturday morning she got up early and took a walk with her young granddaughter. It was a beautiful morning, almost springlike, but in NYC, not a quiet morning. They stopped on a street corner to get some juice and sat on bench nearby underneath a small tree. There was a lot of commotion on the street, cars, horns, music, construction, and lots of people. Her granddaughter turned her and said, "grandma, do you hear that, listen.." Mrs. Plunkett responded that she could hear the cars and horns. Her granddaughter said, "no grandma, do you hear, listen..." Mrs. Plunkett could hear the construction and the music, but still her grandaughter persisted, "no grandma...LISTEN..." Mrs. Plunkett named everything she could hear at which point her granddaughter hopped off the bench, took her face in her hands and turned her head to look at the branch of the tree just above her head, where a small bird was singing away! Her granddaughter then stomped her foot and said, "grandma, you need to learn to Listen Louder"!
"We live in a noisy, contentious world, where it is possible tto be viewing or listening to information, music or even pure nonsense virtually every waking hour. If we want to Have the inspiration of the Holy Ghost, we must find time to slow down, ponder, pray and live so we are worthy to recieve and act upon His promptings." Quentin L. Cook
